How Long Does a Container Home Take to Build?

January 20254 min read

One of the most common questions from prospective buyers is how long the build will take. The answer depends on several factors, but a standard EzPods build follows a predictable timeline.

Consultation and Design: Weeks 1–2

The process begins with a consultation to understand your requirements and site. For standard models, design selection is straightforward. Custom builds require additional design development time.

Site Assessment: Week 2–3

A physical site visit is conducted to assess terrain, access, and infrastructure. This informs the foundation design and delivery logistics.

Permitting: Weeks 3–6

Building permit applications are submitted to the relevant local authority. Permit timelines vary by location and authority. EzPods can provide documentation to support the application, but permit approval timelines are outside our control.

Foundation Preparation: Weeks 4–8

Foundation work is typically done by a local contractor in parallel with fabrication. The type of foundation affects the timeline — a concrete slab takes longer than screw piles.

Fabrication: Weeks 4–14

Pod fabrication begins after design confirmation and deposit. Standard models take 8 to 10 weeks. Custom configurations may take 10 to 14 weeks.

Delivery and Installation: Week 15

The pod is transported to site and installed by crane in a single day for most configurations. Utility connections are completed in the days following installation.

Total Timeline: 12 to 16 Weeks

For a standard model on a straightforward site, the total time from consultation to move-in is 12 to 16 weeks. Complex sites, custom designs, or permit delays may extend this.
